This guide is like a step-by-step treasure map to help you get the Echo VR game on your Windows computer and, if you want, on your Oculus Quest 2 or Quest 3. We’ll explain everything as if it’s your first time doing this! If you never owned or installed Echo VR before the shutdown, you’ll need to follow a special step for your Quest (Step 4a). Let’s get started!
Before you begin, you must join the Echo VR Lounge on Discord. It’s like a clubhouse where players share tips and get help. Click this link to join: https://discord.com/invite/E63Fu2wX4m. You’ll need this later to activate the game.
Open your web browser (like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox).
Click this full link to go to the download page: https://github.com/BL00DY-C0D3/Echo-VR-Installer/releases/download/v0.8.5/EchoVR_Installer-Windows.zip.
Click on the file name EchoVR_Installer-Windows.zip to download it. It’s like getting a box with all the game pieces inside.
Save the file somewhere easy to find, like your Desktop. You’ll see it downloading at the bottom of your browser or in your “Downloads” folder.
Find the EchoVR_Installer-Windows.zip file on your Desktop (or in your Downloads folder).
Double-click the file to open it. It’s like opening a gift box to see what’s inside.
You’ll see a folder inside the zip file. Drag that folder to your Desktop. This is called “extracting,” and it’s like taking the game pieces out of the box so you can use them.
Open the folder you dragged to your Desktop.
Look for a file called EchoVR_Installer.exe and double-click it to start the program.
Your computer might show a warning that says “Windows protected your PC” because it doesn’t recognize the program. If this happens:
- Click the “More info” link in the warning window.
- Click the “Run anyway” button. This tells your computer it’s safe to open the program.
The installer program will open, like a friendly helper that guides you.
On the left side of the installer, click the “PC Install Echo” option.
If you owned Echo VR on your Oculus account before the game was shut down:
- Make sure you’ve opened Echo VR at least once using the Oculus app on your computer. This checks if you have permission to play the game. If you don’t have the Oculus app, download it here: https://www.oculus.com/setup/.
- The installer will ask where to install Echo VR. Choose the default path: C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software. This is like picking a spot to store your game.
- If you see a message saying you need “administrator” rights:
- Close the installer.
- Right-click on EchoVR_Installer.exe on your Desktop, select “Run as administrator,” and try again.
If you never owned or installed Echo VR before the shutdown, skip to Step 4a for your Quest, or continue here to install on your PC with a patch:
- In the installer, find the “No license patch” option on the left side.
- Follow the simple instructions shown on the screen to patch the game so it works without an Oculus account.
- If you installed Echo VR in the Oculus path, select that same path (C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software) in the installer.
If you never owned or installed Echo VR on your Oculus account before the game was shut down, you must turn on “Developer Mode” on your Quest 2 or Quest 3 to install a special version of the game. This is like unlocking a secret setting on your headset to add custom games. Follow these steps carefully:
- Your Oculus Quest 2 or Quest 3 headset.
- A phone or computer to set up an Oculus account.
- The Oculus app on your phone (you’ll download it in this step).
1. Create an Oculus Account:
- If you don’t have an Oculus account, go to this full website: https://www.oculus.com/setup/.
- Click “Sign Up” and follow the instructions to make an account. You’ll need an email address and a password.
- If you already have an account, make sure you know your login details (email and password).
2. Download the Oculus App on Your Phone:
- On your phone, go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Search for “Oculus” and download the official Oculus app:
- For iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/oculus/id1366472413
- For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oculus.twilight
- Open the app and log in with your Oculus account.
3. Create a Developer Organization:
- On a web browser (on your phone or computer), go to the Oculus Developer Dashboard: https://dashboard.oculus.com/.
- Log in with your Oculus account.
- Click “Create New Organization” and give it a name, like “My Echo VR Games.” It’s like naming your own little game club.
- Agree to the terms and click “Submit.”
4. Turn On Developer Mode in the Oculus App:
- Open the Oculus app on your phone.
- Make sure your Quest 2 or Quest 3 is turned on and nearby.
- In the app, tap “Devices” at the bottom.
- Tap “Headsets” and select your Quest 2 or Quest 3.
- Scroll down to “Developer Mode” and toggle the switch to turn it ON. It’s like flipping a switch to unlock a secret door in your headset.
5. Restart Your Quest:
- Turn off your Quest by holding the power button (on the side of the headset) until a menu appears, then choose “Power Off.”
- Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on by holding the power button again.
- Developer Mode is now ready! You only need to do this once.

In the installer, look at the right side for Quest options.
If you owned Echo VR on your Oculus account before the shutdown:
- Click “Quest Install Echo.”
- Click the “Start Download” button and wait for the game to download. It’s like waiting for a video to load.
- You can skip the “OPTIONAL CONFIG” part unless you know you need a special setting.
- Connect your Quest to your computer with a USB cable (the one that came with your Quest works great).
- Click “Install Echo to Quest” in the installer, and it will put the game on your Quest.
- Important: Never press “Restore” on your Quest, or it will delete Echo VR!
If you never owned Echo VR before the shutdown:
- You must have completed Step 4a to enable Developer Mode.
- In the installer, click “No license patch” under the Quest section.
- Follow the instructions shown on the screen to install a special version of Echo VR for your Quest. This version is just for you—don’t share it with anyone!
- Connect your Quest to your computer with a USB cable.
- Install the game as the installer explains.
- Important: Never press “Restore” on your Quest, or it will delete Echo VR!
Make sure you’ve joined the Echo VR Lounge Discord: https://discord.com/invite/E63Fu2wX4m.
Open Echo VR on your computer or Quest.
The game will show you a 4-character code, like ABCD.
In the Echo VR Lounge Discord, find the “#command-central” channel here: https://discord.com/channels/779349159852769310/1227795372244729926.
Type this command with your code: /link-headset [your 4-character code]. For example, if your code is ABCD, type /link-headset ABCD.
You’re all set! Open Echo VR on your computer or Quest and start playing.
If something doesn’t work or you’re confused, ask for help in the Echo VR Lounge Discord at https://discord.com/invite/E63Fu2wX4m. Look for someone named “marcel_one_” to answer your questions.
Note: This installer is still being worked on, so it might have some small issues. Have fun playing Echo VR!
